Engelund & Hansen Transport Theory

The dimensionless rate of total-load transport Ft is calculated as

with C = Chezy’s number and

(5.25)   m21st_ref_man00073.jpg

with qt = the total-load sediment transport and g = gravitational acceleration. The dimensionless bed shear stress q is defined as

(5.26)   m21st_ref_man00076.jpg

where Uf is the shear velocity related to total friction, d is the grain diameter and s is the relative density of the bed material.

This formulation assumes that the dimensionless bed shear stress q is much larger than the Critical Shields Parameter for initiation of transport qc. Therefore, the value of qc specified by the user will not be applied if this formulation has been chosen. Something similar applies to the gradiation of the bed material, since Engelund & Hansen theory is based on the median grain size d50.
